Whether you have cataracts that need to be removed, want to have LASIK vision correction, or need a thorough diabetic eye exam, you should feel totally confident in coming to see our expert eye doctor for eye services. If early tests showed that you may be having problems with diabetic retinopathy, an eye problem caused by elevated sugar levels in the bloodstream, our doctor may recommend that you have additional retinal diagnostic testing. An eye angiography is a diagnostic test which uses special cameras to photograph the back of the eye where the retina and macula reside. These tests are very helpful for finding blood vessels which are damaged or leaking. When a patient is suffering with diabetic retinopathy, weakened blood vessels that surround and nourish the retina can leak and cause serious vision problems. During an eye angiography, a colored dye will be used to help our doctor to clearly see the portions of the retina and blood vessels that need to be examined. There are two different dyes that can be used during this test which include fluorescein, a yellow dye, and indocyanine, a green dye. Neither of these dyes use any harmful type of radiation. These dyes will help our doctor to diagnose and evaluate specific eye diseases. If abnormal blood vessels or leakage is found, laser treatment or certain pharmacological therapies can be used to prevent vision loss from diabetic retinopathy.
